Millions of people in the United States are living with diabetes and millions of people don’t even know it! It is estimated that 29 million people in the US have diabetes. The majority of these people are living with type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is so prevalent because it is caused by lifestyle factors. The best way to treat type 2 diabetes is through a healthy diet and moderate exercise.
Not everyone knows what constitutes a healthy diet and very few people are actually interested in exercise. But this is mostly because people simply don’t know how easy it can be!
Penn State has a program to address this problem.
Dining With Diabetes by Penn State
Penn State created a program called Dining with Diabetes to address the diabetes epidemic that is sweeping the nation.
In the program, participants learn how to prepare meals that are both healthy and delicious. The idea is to present recipes that are doable at home and help combat the disease.
The course allows participants to prepare each meal and then, of course, enjoy it when it is done. They are taught about the nutritional aspects of the meal, how to plan meals, and cooking techniques so that they can confidently remake the meals at home.
The course also outlines healthy exercise habits that are both beneficial and easy to do. Walking after meals, for example, is a great form of exercise that virtually anybody can participate in.

Like all good things, there is both good news and bad news about this program.
The bad news?
It is at Penn State. So anybody interested in the program must attend the courses at the university, which is located in Pennsylvania.
The good news?
Registration is $5 per person, including each family member that attends. Some scholarships are available and even fewer insurers may cover the course. Sign up online at the PSU Extension website.
